operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when the new emotion, Anxiety, voice of Maya Hawke, shows up, taking over Riley’s brain headquarters and banishing Joy and the rest of Riley’s original emotions. Inside Out 2 brings audiences to the imaginative landscapes of the mind & emotions. Now ruled completely by Anxiety and the other negative emotions, Riley begins losing her beliefs and sense of self-worth, leaving it up to Joy and the rest of the emotions to get back in control of Riley and bring her back to her original self before she has a total melt.

Anticipation was palpable earlier this year as fans eagerly awaited the release of Inside Out 2. This would be the much-anticipated sequel to Disney/Pixar’s groundbreaking 2015 animated film, Inside Out. Let’s re-cap, shall we? The original movie captured hearts and shattered box office records, grossing over $857 million worldwide! It was not just a commercial success; it was a poignant exploration of emotions navigated within the mind of a young girl named Riley as she moved through life changes brought on by her family’s relocation to San Francisco. The cast of the Inside Out 2 sequel sees the return of several beloved characters. The heart of the film features the talented Amy Poehler voicing Joy, whose comedic brilliance shines as she captures the essence of relentless positivity. Poehler is no stranger to animated films, having previously lent her voice to characters in Free Birds (2013) and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (2011) plus a slew of other animated shorts and films including the voice of Joy in Inside Out-Mind Candy (2015) and Riley’s First Date? Animation is the lifeblood of Pixar, and the studio’s meticulous process ensured that every frame of Inside Out 2 was nothing short of magical. From story-boarding to character design, for the journey of animating, the team employed state-of-the-art technology, blending traditional artistry with innovative techniques that breathed life into the emotional characters once again. As of its US release on June 14, 2024, Inside Out 2 has become a box office phenomenon, delighting audiences and critics alike. In its opening weekend in the United States, the film grossed an impressive $154 million, showcasing the beloved franchise’s enduring appeal. In the weeks that followed, box office receipts continued to soar, leading to a cumulative gross of approximately $644 million domestically positioning Inside Out 2 as one of the highest-grossing animated films of 2024. Internationally, the film has enjoyed a warm reception as well, accumulating an additional $985 million, bringing its total worldwide gross to an astounding (did we mention this earlier? yea…) $1.6 billion worldwide!
