HBO Renews CRASHING for 2nd Season

March 19, 2017 in TV/INTERNET

Here’s a new comedy you may enjoy.  It’s called CRASHING.  And HBO has recently announced they will renewed the comedy series  created by and starring Pete Holmes for a second season.  Holmes and Judd Apatow executive produce the show, which currently debuts on Sunday nights (10:30-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO.

Lauren Lapkus & Pete Holmes in CRASHING on HBO

The eight-episode first season of CRASHING, which began Feb. 19, tells the story of Pete, a sheltered suburbanite who married his childhood sweetheart and dreams of making it as a stand-up comedian. But when he finds out his wife is cheating on him, Pete’s world unravels, forcing him to reevaluate his priorities and plunging him into the deep end of the rough-and-tumble New York comedy scene.

Among the critical raves, TIME said that Holmes “delights at every turn,” while the St. Louis Post-Dispatch hailed the show as “poignant and also genuinely funny,” and Entertainment Weekly noted, “Holmes is terrific as the show’s emotional core.”

Drawing on Holmes’ own experiences as a comedian, CRASHING also features Lauren Lapkus and George Basil; among the notables appearing as versions of themselves in the first season are Dave Attell, Hannibal Burress, Artie Lange, T.J. Miller, Jim Norton, Rachael Ray and Sarah Silverman.

NYC Gotham Welcomes SHAWN WAYANS

March 15, 2017 in NEWS

If you’ll be in NYC March 23-26 you can catch SHAWN WAYANS at Gotham Comedy Club. Wayans made his acting debut in 1989 in the feature film “I’m Gonna Get You Sucka”. Immediately following his feature film debut, he joined the cast of the Emmy Award winning comedy series, “In Living Color.”

Shawn starred in the box office hits, “Little Man” and “White Chicks,” both
of which he also co-wrote and co-executive produced. Shawn began cowriting
his string of blockbusters with the smash “Scary Movie” where he also
played Ray, an ambiguously gay football jock, alongside his brother Marlon
Wayans, and directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans. Co-written, co-executive
produced by and starring Shawn Wayans, “Scary Movie 2” was the only
sequel in the “Scary Movie” franchise with direct Wayans involvement.
Shawn will next be seen on the big screen in “Dance Flick,” the new comedy
co-written with brothers Marlon and Keenen Ivory.

Shawn’s past film credits include the hit comedy “Don’t Be a Menace to
South Central While Drinking Your Juice in The Hood,” which he cowrote,
executive produced and starred in with brother Marlon Wayans. The
movie was a comic spoof of the coming-of-age-in-the-‘hood movies and is a
huge cult favorite.
The Wayans Bros.” sitcom, which Shawn and Marlon created and starred in,
was the first WB show to be sold into syndication after heading up the WB
network lineup for five years.
Shawn, along with his brothers and sisters, created “Thugaboo” and the
subsequent “Boo Crew” animated specials for Nickelodeon, which began
premiering in August, 2006. In addition to creating, the Wayans are also
writing, directing and voicing the series which takes a humorous look at the
trials and tribulations of nine inner city kids. TheBooCrew.com released in the
fall 2009 and plans are underway to turn The Boo Crew into a daily comic
strip.
When not on the road performing standup, Shawn can be found hard at work in
the “lab” where he and his brothers are busy concocting their next project.

OSCARS Blunder While Moonlight & Viola Soar

March 1, 2017 in MOVIES & FILM, NEWS

https://youtu.be/BWIdWLwux18

Viola Davis gave what will probably be long remembered as one of the most moving, meaningful and memorable acceptance speeches in Oscar history as she graciously accepted her Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role OSCAR AWARD for her work in the movie FENCES.

Other OSCAR winners included LA LA LAND which walked away with 6 Oscars including Emma Stone (Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role), Damien Chazelle (Best Achievement in Directing), Justin Hurwitz (Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures – Original Score).

However the biggest excitement of the night occurred at the very end of the show, when presenters were the given the wrong envelope and announced  LA LA LAND as winner of the most prestigious award of the night, Best Motion Picture of The Year when in reality the actual winner was MOONLIGHT.  The error was quickly corrected live and on-the-air in front of millions of confused television views and the audience at the show.  The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who presents the OSCARS annually has posted the following apology to the viewers and MOONLIGHT on its website,

“We sincerely apologize to “Moonlight,” “La La Land,” Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture. The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope…”.

MOONLIGHT won other OSCAR AWARDS  for – Mahershala Ali  “Best Supporting Actor” as well as “Best Written Adapted Screenplay “  OSCAR AWARD for Barry Jenkins & Tarell Alvin McCraney .

Kaitlin Olson: The Mick

March 1, 2017 in NEWS, TV/INTERNET

THE MICK is a no-holds-barred single-camera comedy that gives new meaning to the phrase “dysfunctional family.”

MACKENZIE aka “MICKEY” (Kaitlin Olson, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) is an unapologetic degenerate, who suddenly finds herself stuck in affluent Greenwich, CT, raising her spoiled niece and nephews: SABRINA (Sofia Black-D’Elia, “The Night Of”), an ambitious, 18-going-on-30-year-old who is a worthy adversary to Mickey; CHIP (Thomas Barbusca, “Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life”), 13, an arrogant, entitled neo-con-in-the-making with an extremely punchable face; and BEN (newcomer Jack Stanton), seven, an adorably fragile nerd.

It’s pretty much everything Mickey has never wanted. Regardless, she’s determined to rise to the occasion and transform these little monsters into honest, hard-working, decent members of society – something she knows absolutely nothing about. Being a mother was never in Mickey’s game plan, but these kids desperately need a parent. And as irresponsible as Mickey has been her entire life, she may discover that responsibility and motherhood aren’t the buzzkill she always thought they would be. The series also stars Carla Jimenez (“Raising Hope”) and Scott MacArthur (“Angie Tribeca”).

THE MICK is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. The series was created/written by John Chernin and Dave Chernin. The Chernin brothers, Nicholas Frenkel and Oly Obst, along with Randall Einhorn, who directed the pilot episode, are executive producers. Kaitlin Olson is a co-executive producer on the series.
